Introducing the New Volkswagen Tayron: A Spacious Seven-Seater SUV

If you admire the sleek design of the new Volkswagen Tiguan but find yourself needing an extra row of seats, the all-new Volkswagen Tayron might just be the perfect fit for your family. Previously exclusive to the Chinese market, the Tayron is now coming to Europe as the successor to the Tiguan AllSpace. Competing with models like the Nissan X-Trail, Skoda Kodiaq, and Peugeot 5008, it promises to make a strong impression in the seven-seater SUV segment.

Design and Exterior Features

The Volkswagen Tayron shares much of its styling DNA with the Tiguan but introduces several distinctive design elements. The front end features slim headlights and a full-width light bar across the bonnet, echoing the Tiguan's look while keeping its lamps from extending into the front wings. At 10mm wider than the Tiguan, the Tayron has a bolder road presence, while its 230mm increase in length accommodates the additional row of seats.

The sporty sloping roofline adds a dynamic edge to its silhouette, distinguishing it from competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe. Depending on the trim level, the Tayron comes with alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches. At the rear, a full-width tail light assembly mirrors the Tiguan's, albeit with a unique LED signature for subtle differentiation.

Interior and Technology

Step inside the Tayron, and you’ll find a cabin that balances familiarity with fresh details. The dashboard features a sleek gloss-black panel with intricate ambient lighting, complemented by an additional trim strip exclusive to the Tayron. This strip can be customised with materials like elegant wood veneer for an upscale touch.

At the centre of the action is Volkswagen’s 12.9-inch touchscreen, which can be upgraded to an expansive 15-inch display. A 10.25-inch digital driver’s display comes as standard, providing a modern and intuitive driving experience. The multifunction knob in the centre console offers easy control over volume, driving modes, and lighting adjustments, showcasing VW’s focus on driver convenience.

The Tayron's primary selling point is its spaciousness. As the second-largest Volkswagen SUV in Europe—surpassed only by the Touareg—it offers an impressive amount of room for passengers and luggage. The five-seat version boasts 885 litres of boot space, just slightly less than the Skoda Kodiaq. Opting for the seven-seat model reduces the boot space to 850 litres, still providing a significantly larger capacity than rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Engines and Performance

The Tayron mirrors the Tiguan’s engine lineup, with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options available. The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, offering power outputs of 204hp and 272hp. It also provides up to 62 miles of all-electric range (final figures pending). However, PHEV models are available only in the five-seat configuration due to the hybrid components under the boot floor—a limitation the Peugeot 5008 avoids.

For seven-seat flexibility, petrol and diesel options are your go-to choices. The range starts with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 150hp, while a 2.0-litre petrol variant offers either 204hp or 265hp, both featuring all-wheel drive. Diesel enthusiasts can choose between a 2.0-litre engine with 150hp (front-wheel drive) or 193hp (all-wheel drive). Every engine variant is paired with an automatic gearbox for seamless driving.

Pricing and Availability

The Volkswagen Tayron is set to arrive in early 2025, with pricing yet to be confirmed. Given its larger size and additional features, expect the Tayron to command a premium over the Tiguan, with starting prices likely around £45,000.

As soon as the lease prices are available they will be published to our website.

Why Choose the Volkswagen Tayron?

The Tayron combines the elegant design and advanced technology of the Tiguan with the practicality of a larger, seven-seat SUV. Whether you need extra seating for family trips or generous luggage space for weekend getaways, the Tayron is a compelling choice in the crowded SUV market.
