The beloved Volvo estate cars have made a comeback in UK showrooms. The Swedish automaker is now accepting orders for the V60 and V90 wagons, which were discontinued last year.
Both models are now available exclusively with hybrid powertrains. The V60, Volvo’s competitor to the BMW 3 Series Touring, offers three engine options: the B4 mild-hybrid petrol with 194bhp, the T6 plug-in hybrid with 335bhp, and the more powerful T8 plug-in hybrid delivering 399bhp.
The larger Volvo V90, which competes with the BMW 5 Series Estate, is available only as a plug-in hybrid. Customers can choose between the T6 and T8 versions, each offering different power outputs.
The V60 and V90 come in Plus and Ultra trim levels. Standard features include a nine-inch central touchscreen with a Google-powered infotainment system, Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, LED headlights, heated front and rear seats, leather upholstery, keyless entry, a powered tailgate, and various safety features such as lane-keeping assist and traffic sign recognition.
Why were the Volvo V60 and V90 discontinued? A Volvo spokesperson explained that the V60 and V90 were removed from sale in the UK last August due to declining demand for estate cars. Despite this long-term trend, there has been a recent resurgence in interest for Volvo’s estate models, prompting their reintroduction to the UK market.
“In a rapidly evolving industry, we constantly reassess our product lineup to ensure it meets the needs of our customers. As part of this process, it’s not unusual for us to temporarily remove certain models or derivatives from sale and bring them back later,” the spokesperson said.
“We were delighted by the numerous comments from customers and the media last year, many of whom shared stories and memories of how our estate cars have been a significant part of their lives. We look forward to creating more of these memories.”
For those hoping the Volvo S60 and S90 saloons might also return to the UK, the brand has confirmed there are no such plans. However, the all-electric Volvo ES90 saloon is set to launch later this year and will compete with the BMW i5.
